ခရစ်စမတ်စ်အလွဲလေးတခု

ကျွန်တော် ငယ်ငယ်က အမှတ်တရတွေထဲမှာ Christmas နဲ့ပက်သက်တဲ့အမှတ်တရတွေက အတော်ကြည်နူးဖို့ကောင်းခဲ့ပါတယ်။ နှစ်တနှစ်ရဲ့ အေးချမ်းတဲ့အချိန်အခါလေး၊ နေ့တိုင်းအလိုလိုကြားရတဲ့ နှစ်လိုဖွယ်၊ဝမ်းမြောက်ဖွယ်ကောင်းတဲ့ Christmasသီချင်းသံစဉ်လေးတွေ၊ ကျောင်းပိတ်ရက်တွေလည်းရှိလို့ ကိုယ့်မိသားစုစုံစုံလင်လင်နဲ့ မိသားစုတွေအတူတကွ အနားယူလေ့ရှိကြပါတယ်။ Christmas ပိတ်ရက်ရောက်ပြီဆိုလျှင် နယ်မှာရှိတဲ့ နှစ်ဖက် အဖိုးအဖွားတွေဆီ ပြန်ကြရင်း လူကြီးသူမများနှင့် အတူတူ အချိန်ကုန်ဆုံးခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။

အဲ့ဒီအမှတ်တရတွေထဲမှာမှ ရီလည်းရီရ၊ ရှက်တတ်ရင်လည်း ရှက်ဖို့ကောင်းတဲ့ ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့အချိန်အခိုက်အတန့်လေးတခု ပြန်မျှဝေချင်ပါတယ်။

Decemberလ Christmasကျောင်းပိတ်ရက်ကာလ၊ ကျွန်တော် ၃တန်း၊ ၄တန်း အရွယ်တုန်းက ကျွန်တော့်ပါးပါ ဘက်ကရွာကို မိသားစုဝင်တွေ ပြန်သွားခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ရွာအနီးတဝိုက်နဲ့ ရွာက အနောက်ပိုးကရင်တွေဖြစ်ကြတော့ တစ်ရွာလုံး ပိုးကရင်လိုဘဲပြောကြပါတယ်။ ကျွန်တော့် မိုးမိုးဘက်က စကောလိုဘဲ နားကြားဝနေခဲ့တော့ ပိုးကရင်လိုက လုံးဝ ကျွန်တော့်အတွက် အသစ်အဆန်းဖြစ်နေခဲ့ပါတာပေါ့။

Christmasကာလရောက်ရှိလာရင်လည်း ရွာတွေက christmasပွဲတော်ကို စည်စည်ကားကား စည်းစည်းလုံးလုံး ကျင်းပကြပါတယ်။ နှစ်တိုင်းအလိုလိုဘဲ ပါးပါရဲ့ ရွာလေးလည်း ကျင်းပပါတယ်။ ပွဲတော်ကျင်းပတဲ့အခါ stage showတွေ၊ ပြဇာတ်တွေ၊ ကာရာအိုကေ စတဲ့ ဖျော်ဖြေရေးတွေနဲ့ ညနက်တဲ့အထိ ကျင်းပကြပါတယ်။

အဲ့ပွဲတော်ရက်လေးမှာ ကျွန်တော်တို့မိသားစုတွေ ပွဲရှိတဲ့ ဘုရားကျောင်းရှေ့ကွင်းပြင်ကို သွားခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။ မှတ်မိသလောက် stage စင်နဲ့နီးတဲ့ ဒုတိယအတန်းမှာထိုင်ခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။ အချိန်အားဖြင့်လည်း ည၈နာရီ၊ ၉နာရီဆိုတော့ ညအအေးဓာတ်ကို ကိုယ်စီအံတုရင်း အနွေးထည်လေးတွေ၊ မဖလာလေးတွေ၊ ဦးထုပ်လေးတွေနဲ့ လူတိုင်းကို တွေ့မြင်ရပါတယ်။

ပွဲကလည်း အစဆိုတော့ ဦးလေးတယောက် ကနေစတင်ပြီး ပိုးကရင်လို မိုက်နဲ့စကားပြောပါတော့တယ်။ လူတွေလည်း ချက်ခြင်းတိတ်ဆိတ်သွားပြီး အဲ့ဦးလေးဆီဘဲ အာရုံရောက်သွားခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။ ဦးလေးရဲ့ လက်ထက်မှာ အညိုရောင်ဆွယ်တာဦးထုပ်တခုကို ကိုင်ထားပြီး စကားပြောနေတော့ ကျွန်တော့် စိတ်ထဲ မျက်လှည့်ဆရာတွေ မျက်လှည့်ပြသယောင်သတိရမိသွားပါတယ်။ အဲ့ဦးလေးစကားပြောနေရင်း ပြောနေရင်း ၊စင်ရှေ့နားကို တိုးလာပြီး အဲ့ဆွယ်တာဦးထုပ်ကို လက်တဖက်က မြောက်ကာ ပရိတ်သတ်တွေကို စကားပြောနေပါတယ်။ ပရိသတ်တွေကလည်း စိတ်ဝင်တစား အဲ့ဦးလေးကို လိုက်ကြည့်နေတော့ ကျွန်တော့်စိတ်ထဲ

ငါထင်တာမှန်ပြီး အဲ့ဒါ မျက်လှည့်ပြတော့မှာ

ဆိုပြီး ကောက်ချက်ချလိုက်ပါတယ်။ ပြီးလျှင် ဘေးက ကျွန်တော့်မိုးမိုးကို လက်တို့ပြီး

မိုးမိုး မိုးမိုး... ဟိုမှာ မျက်လှည့်ပြတော့မယ်

ဆိုပြီး ပြောလိုက်ပါတယ်။ ဘေးပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ကလည်း တိတ်ဆိတ်နေတော့၊ ကျွန်တော့် အသံက အဲ့နားတဝိုက် အကုန်နီးပါးကြားရပါတယ်။

ကျွန်တော် ကျွန်တော့်အမေကို အဲ့လိုပြောလိုက်တော့ ရှေ့ကလူတွေရော ဘေးကလူတွေပါ ဝိုင်းပြီးကြည့်ပြီး ပြုံးစိစိနဲ့ရယ်ကြပါတယ်။

တကယ်တော့ အဲ့ဦးလေးက မျက်လှည့်ပြဖို့မဟုတ်ဘဲ အဲ့ဆွယ်တာဦးထုပ်လေးက ပိုင်ရှင်မဲ့ ဖြစ်နေလို့ ဘယ်သူ့ဦးထုပ်လဲဆိုတာကို stageစင်ပေါ်မှကြေညာနေခဲ့တာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဘာသာစကားနားမလည်မှုကြောင့် ဖြစ်သွားတဲ့ အလွဲလေးတခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Christmasကာလ ရောက်တိုင်း ဒီအဖြစ်လေးကို ပြန်တွေးမိရင်း ပြုံးရယ် မိပါတယ်။ ဒီနှစ်လည်း Christmasကာလ တဖန်ပြန်ရောက်တော့မယ်ဆိုတော့ အခုစာဖတ်သူနဲ့ မိသားစုကိုလည်း ပျော်ရွင်စရာ ငြိမ်သက်အေးချမ်းတဲ့ Christmasကာလလေးတခု ပိုင်ဆိုင်နိုင်ပါစေကြောင်း ဆုတောင်းပေးလိုက်ပါတယ်။

A Small Christmas Misunderstanding

When I think about my childhood, one of the most memorable things is Christmas. It was always such a heartwarming time of the year. The peaceful season, the cheerful Christmas carols you’d hear everywhere, and the long school holidays made it special. Families would gather, spend time together, rest, and celebrate the holiday. For my family, it meant traveling back to our hometown to visit both sets of grandparents and spending quality time with the elders.

Out of all those memories, there’s one particular moment—funny yet slightly embarrassing—that I’d like to share with you.

It happened during the December school break when I was in Grade 3 or 4. My family traveled to my grandmother’s village (my dad's side), which was populated mostly by Western Pwo Karen ethnic people. The entire village and surrounding villages were Pwo Karen, so everyone referred to it as the “Karen villages.” Since I was from a different background where I used to hear S'Gaw Karen (my mom's side), the Pwo Karen accent and speaking felt new to me.

Christmas time in the village was lively and festive. They celebrated the holiday grandly, with stage performances, plays, karaoke, and other entertainment that lasted until late at night. Every year, the village hosted a vibrant Christmas festival.

On the night of the festival, my family and I went to the churchyard, where the event was held. We sat in the second row, quite close to the stage. It was around 8 or 9 PM, so it was chilly. Everyone was bundled up in warm clothes, scarves, and hats to fight the cold.

The event began with an elder man stepping onto the stage. He started speaking in the Pwo Karen language using a microphone. The crowd immediately quieted down, giving him their full attention. The man was holding a brown knitted hat in one hand while speaking. For some reason, it reminded me of a magician about to perform a magic trick.

As he continued talking and gesturing toward the audience with the hat, I became more convinced that he was setting up a magic show. My imagination ran wild, and I thought,

He’s definitely about to do a magic trick!

Unable to contain my excitement, I nudged my mom and said,

Mom! Mom! He’s going to do a magic trick!

The area was quiet, and my excited voice was loud enough for the people around us to hear. Suddenly, people in the rows ahead and around us turned to look at me. They started smiling and chuckling softly.

It turned out that the man wasn’t a magician at all. He wasn’t performing a magic trick. Instead, he was simply announcing that the hat he was holding had been found without an owner, and he was asking the crowd to claim it.

It was a silly misunderstanding caused by my lack of understanding of the Karen language.

Every time Christmas comes around, I recall this little incident and can’t help but smile to myself. As this year’s Christmas season approaches, I hope you and your family have a joyful and peaceful holiday, filled with laughter and good memories.
